How to Prepare
Preparing for your EMG/NCS is simple,
just follow the steps listed below:
-
No lotions, creams or oils, please.
-
Your provider will be using electrodes on your skin to measure how effective your nerves are functioning.
-
-
Loose clothing and shorts are best.
-
Depending on your underlying condition your provider will potentially need access to your back, arms or legs.
-
-
No Mestinon or muscle relaxers. All other medication are okay to take as normal
-
EMGs help measure signals from your muscles.
-
-
Don't forget to fill out your INTAKE FORMS in advance
-
If you're unable to fill them out in advance, please arrive 15mins early for your appointment
-
History
-
You'll start off with a brief explanation of symptoms/conditions.
EMG
-
A small needle electrode will be used to sample several muscles and their activity level.
NCS
-
After applying sticker electrodes low levels of electrical current are used to stimulate the nerve. The response of your nerves and muscles is then recorded and analyzed.
Diagnostic Ultrasound
